Our top ten tips to keep your hair healthy
1. Find out what type of hair you have. Do you have oily hair, or dry hair? Is it curly or straight, thick or thin? Is it brittle and prone to splitting? Do you have dandruff etc? Once you know your hair type you can take steps to keep it in good shape.
2. Protect your hair from too much exposure to the sun. Yes, your hair and scalp can be subject to sunburn just like the other parts of your body. Many people forget about the hair and scalp and just apply sun screen to the usual exposed areas. However, you should wear a hat or try to keep your head covered when possible. Look for hair products that coat and protect your hair from exposure to the sun.
3. If you have long hair don't use rubber bands to tie your hair back into a ponytail. Instead use an elastic ring, covered in soft fabric which will protect your hair and not pull and damage it as rubber bands do.
4. Brushing your hair each night before going to bed stimulates blood flow to your scalp and this promotes hair growth. But do not brush wet or damp hair.
5. When drying your hair, hold the dryer at least 8 inches away from the hair and never hold it still over one section as this will scorch the hair. Always keep the dryer moving.
6. Drink lots of water. This might sound obvious, but a balanced diet with plenty of water will keep your hair looking healthy and shiny.
7. When your hair is wet, never use a brush, alway use a comb instead to avoid pulling which results in breakages.
8. Don't colour your hair to more than three shades lighter or darker and this will avoid excessive damage.
9. Don't use hair straighteners without a protective spray which you apply to the hair before using the irons.
10. To give instant volume, tie your hair up with a band when wet and blow dry the root area first. Allow the top to fall, then dry will give instant volume.
